Metropolis Group is a fast growing group, established in 1994, that specialises in business & consumer media and discount & loyalty programmes. It employs 500 people and has offices in West London, Croydon, Shoreditch, Bolton, Dublin, Chester and New York.
Robert Marr: Chief Executive
Robert joined Metropolis as CEO in 2011. Prior to Metropolis Robert was Chief Operating Officer at William Reed Business Media from 2007, and from 2009 additionally Managing Director of its digital business. Robert joined William Reed in 2001 as Group Finance Director, and was additionally from 2002 to 2006 publishing director of the food manufacturing portfolio (winning PPA business magazine of the year 2005). Previously Robert was Finance Director of Stemcor UK, the world’s largest steel trader, and a consultant at software business Lost Wax. Robert has an MBA from Cass Business School, and qualified as a chartered accountant with BDO.
Richard Hutchinson: Finance Director
Richard is a qualified certified accountant who trained with BDO Stoy Hayward. Prior to joining Metropolis he was Finance Director of Aroma, a Private Equity backed coffee chain which was sold to McDonalds, for whom he then worked for 12 months. He joined Metropolis in 2001. Richard has a degree in Law.
David Harris: Publishing Director
David Harris joined Metropolis in 2015 and is Publishing Director responsible for a portfolio of consumer media brands and additionally discount and loyalty business Smartsave. Prior to joining Metropolis David was a publisher at Haymarket Media Group.
Nick Stimpson: Managing Director, Business Media
Nick joined Metropolis in 2013 and is Managing Director of a portfolio of business media brands. Nick was an Advertisement Director at Haymarket between 1990 and 1998 and Publishing Director from 1998 to 2002, and from 2003 to 2008 he sat on the Group Board as Divisional Director of a sizeable B2B portfolio including Management Today, Print Week and Marketing. Previously, Nick was Managing Director at Pavilion and at Ten Alps Plc. Nick graduated from the University of London with a degree in French and German.
Sean Brierley: Managing Director, Business Media
Sean joined Metropolis in 2016 and is Managing Director of a portfolio of business and media brands. Sean previously occupied senior management positions at Emap and Euromoney. At Euromoney he ran a portfolio of global events, launched an airline financials database and managed the acquisition of Infrastructure Journal from Top Right Group. Sean previously edited several weekly B2B titles including The Lawyer and Middle East Economic Digest (MEED). He has a BA (Econ) and a MA (Econ) from Manchester University and is the author of a book on the advertising industry.
Peter Dakin: Digital Technology Director, Business and Consumer Media
Peter joined Metropolis in 2013 as Digital Technology Director responsible for the web development team supporting the group’s business and consumer media brands. Previously Peter was Technical Director at Vivo Rewards from 2011 to 2012, and prior to that lead engineer at Specific Media. Between 2002 and 2006 Peter was proprietor of his own company in New Zealand providing internet services before moving to the UK in 2007.
Laz Tyrekidis: Digital Marketing and Audience Director, Business Media
Laz joined Metropolis in 2014 with responsibility for the digital marketing team supporting business media. Previously Laz was from 2012 Digital Marketing Director for Visit Rentals. Between 2005 and 2010 he ran his own online newspaper in his native country of Greece. Laz has a degree in Computer Science.
